Charles M. Cohon
The Quick and the Dead
Monday, 9:15 a.m.
Presenter: Charles M. Cohon, CEO and President, Manufacturers’ Agents National Association
If you are a rep, there is a fork in the road up ahead. And it’s coming up quickly. Pick the right fork, and the best manufacturers will be lined up outside your door waiting to give you their lines. Pick the wrong fork, and you’re dead. And all the manufacturers lined up to give their lines to the industry’s best reps will be principals that used to be on your line card. No succession plan? No heir apparent? You’re dead. No communication plan for your principals? You’re dead. No website? Still using an AOL email address? You’re dead. Is it too late to pick the right fork? Not if you’re motivated and ready to embrace the needed changes. In this seminar, the discussion will focus on how to plan and execute those changes for your firm … unless you’d rather just be dead.

The Rep Value Proposition: Taking a Fresh Look at Manufacturers’ Reps – A Framework for Discussions
Monday, 10:45 a.m. / Tuesday, 9:45 a.m.
Presenters: Cesare Giammarco, ERA Consultant, and John Simari, Simari Consulting, ERA Consultant
Participants: Tim Conlon, ERA Consultant; Tom Griffin, CPMR, President, Catalyst Sales, Inc.; Alex Iuorio, Senior Vice President, Supplier Marketing and Business Development, Avnet Electronics; and Mike Lasley, President, ION Associates
Manufacturers’ reps are a critical element of sales channel strategies. In today’s fast-paced, ever-changing industry it is essential that manufacturers have a current view of how reps address the most critical needs, from advocacy to expertise to customer experience. This also applies to distributors who work with reps in a collaborative selling effort on behalf of those manufacturers.
In this session, the presenters will walk through a framework to have that discussion with manufacturers. Because each company is unique, no one presentation will meet all situations. This is true for manufacturers that have strong rep engagements as well as those that might be considering a rep model. For distributors, viewing the rep value from the perspective of the manufacturer will enhance the effectiveness of the teaming. Developed by individuals with extensive experience at manufacturers, the materials discussed and distributed in this session can be tailored to fit most any situation.

The end product will be a set of revised contract provisions that reps can keep in mind for future negotiations.

Monday, 10:45 a.m. / Monday, 2:30 p.m.
Presenter: Debbie Castrodale, Founder, The Unsale
The marketplace isn’t static; why are you still using the same sale “scripts” and methodologies? In this session, you will learn: how to understand and position sales as a collaborative process versus a role and a methodology; why and how you should stop “push” selling and “pull” your customers towards your offering; how innovation and disruption are affecting your ability to talk to customers and what to do about it; what your conversation components should include to get customers to take your call and invite you into their conversation; when and where “the conversation” starts plus why and how you can gain early traction on the path to sales; why the most successful companies “live” in a different operating model; and what skills you need to use or acquire to be a best in class sales organization or sales representative. Come prepared for an active discussion and for some next steps you can implement immediately for better sales outcomes in 2018.
